Sandy Springs has no city trash service: residents hire an approved private hauler. Recycling, glass and electronics go to 470 Morgan Falls Road.
Last checked Oct. 5, 2026. Facts on this page come from the City of Sandy Springs Garbage & Recycling page and from Keep North Fulton Beautiful, which runs the city’s recycling center.
Sandy Springs works differently from most cities around it: the city does not collect trash. Every household and business signs its own contract with a private waste hauler, or gets service through its homeowners association or apartment complex. That means your pickup day, cart size, holiday schedule and bill all come from the hauler, not from City Hall.
Who to call
- Your pickup day, missed pickup, carts, bulk items, holiday delays: your hauler (list below)
- City questions, illegal dumping, overflowing carts at the curb: City of Sandy Springs Call Center, 770-730-5600 (24 hours), or Sandy Springs Works online
- Recycling, glass, electronics, hazardous waste events: Keep North Fulton Beautiful, 470-990-9906, 470 Morgan Falls Road
- Official page: Garbage & Recycling
Choosing a hauler
The city publishes a list of approved waste haulers. For homes, the approved residential haulers are:
- Arrow Waste
- Custom Disposal Services (homeowners associations only)
- Diamond Disposal (homeowners associations only)
- Lambert Disposal
- SeeGreen Services
- Waste Management
- 1Stop Disposal
Approved commercial haulers are Commercial Disposal, Republic Services, SeeGreen Services, Waste Pro and Waste Management. The city also lists dumpster rental and junk removal companies for one-off jobs.
The city says it charges haulers an annual infrastructure maintenance fee equal to 5% of their gross receipts, and that it charges no administrative or service fee of its own. If you live in a neighborhood with an HOA contract, check with the HOA before signing up on your own: two of the approved haulers serve HOAs only.
Residents who want to haul their own trash, and contractors, must apply to the city’s Revenue Department with the Solid Waste Self-Hauler/Contractor Application (PDF), at City Hall, 1 Galambos Way, or by calling 770-730-5600.
What day is my pickup? What about holidays?
Because each hauler runs its own routes, there is no single citywide pickup calendar and no citywide holiday schedule. Your hauler sets your day, tells you whether recycling and yard waste go out on the same day, and decides which holidays push pickup back. Keep the hauler’s customer service number on the fridge; it is the only place to get a firm answer.
The Sandy Springs Recycling Center
The city partners with Keep North Fulton Beautiful (KNFB) for drop-off recycling at 470 Morgan Falls Road, off Roswell Road between Abernathy and Northridge roads.
| Day | Hours |
|---|---|
| Monday, Tuesday | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Wednesday | Closed to the public |
| Thursday, Friday, Saturday | 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. |
| Sunday | Closed |
KNFB says it is closed on New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and whenever Fulton County Schools close for bad weather. Everything must be empty and clean.
Free to drop off, according to KNFB’s what we accept page:
- Aluminum, steel and tin cans, and scrap metal
- Cardboard and chipboard (no milk cartons or paper cups), magazines, newspapers and office paper
- Plastic #1 beverage bottles, #2 jugs and bottles, and #5
- Food and beverage glass jars and bottles. No sheet glass, auto glass, ceramics, mirrors, vases or drinkware
- Cellphones, computers, printer cartridges and other small electronics
- Metal appliances without Freon, grills, lawn furniture and other bulky metal items
- Clothing, shoes, books, home medical equipment and like-new household items, which go to charity
- Liquid cooking oil and grease
Some items carry a fee, paid at the office window before drop-off. KNFB lists them on the same page; examples include appliances with Freon, TVs and monitors, fluorescent bulbs, tires, paint and document shredding. TVs, monitors and items containing mercury or Freon are taken from Sandy Springs and Johns Creek residents only, according to KNFB’s electronics page.
Glass
Many curbside programs in metro Atlanta no longer take glass. KNFB’s glass recycling page says clean food or beverage jars and bottles can go to the recycling center instead. The city also says an aluminum can recycling bin, owned by the Georgia Burn Foundation, sits at Fire Station 51, 1425 Spalding Drive.
Bulk items and hazardous waste
Bulk pickup is a hauler service: ask your hauler what it takes and how much notice it needs. Outside of that, the recycling center takes metal furniture and appliances, and KNFB runs a Bulky Trash and Recycling Day for Sandy Springs residents for large appliances, electronics, furniture, bicycles, lawn mowers and more.
The city’s guidance for household hazardous waste, from its Garbage & Recycling page:
- 20-pound propane tanks: to Lowe’s, Home Depot or another propane retailer, never in the trash
- Motor oil: many auto parts stores take it, including Advance Auto Parts, NAPA and AutoZone
- Latex paint: mix with equal parts kitty litter or another absorbent, let it dry, then put it in the trash
- Compact fluorescent bulbs: Home Depot takes them
- Gasoline: never into a storm drain or sewer
Pesticides, solvent-based paint and cleaning chemicals should be kept in their original containers for a KNFB collection event. The 2026 Household Hazardous Waste event ran 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the Sandy Springs Youth Sports Complex, 450 Morgan Falls Place. It was free, for Sandy Springs residents only, with pre-registration, and paint was limited to 80 pounds a vehicle.
Christmas trees
Every January, KNFB’s Bring One for the Chipper collects Christmas trees at the Home Depot on Peachtree-Dunwoody Road and at the recycling center, and turns them into free mulch.
