Our guides for new residents

Electricity

The city lists Georgia Power as the electricity provider in Sandy Springs on its utilities page. Start, stop or move service through Georgia Power’s online service request or by phone at 1-888-660-5890.

Water and sewer

The Atlanta Department of Watershed Management provides water in Sandy Springs and bills for water and sewer; Fulton County maintains the sewer lines, the city says. To open an account, use Atlanta’s start my service page. You need:

  • Owners: a completed New Service Application, a closing statement, settlement statement or warranty deed showing the property address, and a government-issued photo ID. Only the deed holder can apply.
  • Tenants: a completed New Service Application, the lease (terms and signature pages) and a government-issued photo ID.

You can apply online, by fax or in person. Apartments and condos on a master meter may not need their own account; ask your management or association. Billing questions go to ATL311, 404-546-0311, first, the city says.

If your home is on a septic system, the city’s septic page explains upkeep and who to call at Fulton County about connecting to sewer.

Natural gas

Georgia’s gas market is deregulated. Atlanta Gas Light operates the pipes that deliver gas, but you start service with a certified marketer, the city’s utilities page explains. Compare marketers on the Georgia Public Service Commission’s list of certified marketers. Gas emergencies still go to Atlanta Gas Light, 1-877-427-4321.

Internet

Two providers publish Sandy Springs service pages with sign-up links: AT&T Internet in Sandy Springs and Xfinity in Sandy Springs. Service varies by street, so check your exact address with each provider. The FCC’s National Broadband Map lists every provider that reports service at an address.

Trash

The city does not collect trash. You contract with a private hauler from the city’s approved list, or get service through your HOA or apartment complex. Glass, electronics and scrap metal go to the Sandy Springs Recycling Center, 470 Morgan Falls Road. Details are in our trash guide.
