Lantern Parade, Saturday, May 8
Families make lanterns, gather as the sun sets and parade down to the Chattahoochee River. The city says festivities start at 6 p.m. with a pre-parade party: a live DJ, free activities and food trucks. In 2026 the parade lined up at 8 p.m. and stepped off at 8:30 p.m. from the Sandy Springs Municipal Complex, then went 1 mile downhill along Morgan Falls Road to Morgan Falls Overlook Park, where kayakers from Murph’s Surf pulled lit “swimming lanterns” on the river and the giant puppets stayed on display, according to the city’s parade route page.
- Parking: at 7840 Roswell Road, about a 4-minute walk to the pre-parade party, which the city says is in a new location for 2027; a shuttle brings people back after the parade.
- Lanterns: only LED battery-powered lights; no fire and no flying lanterns.
- Make one: the city offers lantern workshops and make-at-home kits; the City Springs calendar lists kits April 1 to May 7 and workshops May 1-2, 2027.
- Watching: bring chairs or blankets; stay on the sidewalk and off retaining walls.
Mother-Son Dance

In 2026 it was Friday, May 1, 6 to 8 p.m., in the Studio Theatre at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, with dancing, games, dinner, door prizes, a souvenir photo and a goody bag for each boy. Admission was $40 per mother-son duo and $10 for each extra son, with reserved tables for eight at $200; pre-registration was required. Attire is business casual to semi-formal. 2027 dates are not out yet. Source: the city’s 2026 announcement. Registration is through the city’s registration portal.
